Usage and limits
Gatelion is free to use, with limits on what each organization can set up and use each day. The Usage page shows where you stand against them.
The Usage page
Admins can open Usage. Counts cover your whole organization, every environment together, and days run from midnight to midnight in your organization's time zone. The page has three parts:
- Today: meters for Tool calls a day and Approval requests a day, each showing used against the limit, and today's counts of Denied calls, Succeeded, Failed and Unknown outcome executions, and Approvals decided.
- Tool calls, last 30 days: a bar per day, to show your trend.
- Set up: meters for what your organization has created, each against its limit.
A meter turns amber at 80% of its limit and red when the limit is reached.
Limits
These are the usual limits for every organization. Gatelion may adjust them:
| Limit | Default | What counts |
|---|---|---|
| Environments | 3 | Environments in your organization. |
| Gateways | 5 | All Gateways, self-hosted and hosted. Retired Gateways don't count. |
| Hosted Gateways | 1 | Gateways run by Gatelion, out of the 5 above. Retired ones don't count. |
| Connected systems | 10 | Connections to your business systems. |
| Tools | 200 | Tools from your connections, whether imported from an API description or described in the console, and whether switched on or off. |
| Agents | 20 | Your own agents. Outside agents that customers bring don't count here. |
| People | 25 | People in your organization, including invitations not yet accepted. People whose access was removed don't count. |
| Approval requests a day | 500 | Approval requests created in one day, in your organization's time zone. |
| Tool calls a day | 5,000 | Calls agents make through your Gateways in one day, in your organization's time zone, whatever the outcome. |
Your organization's limits can differ from these, if Gatelion has changed the usual limits or set yours on request. The Usage page always shows the limits that apply to you. If a limit is lowered, nothing you already have is removed: you just can't add more until you're under it.
Daily counters
Tool calls a day and Approval requests a day reset at midnight in your organization's time zone. An admin sets the zone in Settings; until then it's UTC.
Every call an agent makes counts as a tool call, including calls that are denied. A call is counted when its Gateway reports it to Gatelion, usually within seconds.
What happens at a limit
When an action would go past a limit, it's refused with the code quota_exceeded and a message naming the limit, for example "This organization has reached its limit of 20 agents."
| Limit reached | What happens |
|---|---|
| A setup limit (environments, Gateways, systems, tools, agents, people) | Creating one more is refused. What you already have keeps working. Remove something you no longer need (retire a Gateway, or remove the access of someone who left), or ask for a higher limit. |
| Approval requests a day | New approval requests are refused, so a call that needs approval ends as rejected with quota_exceeded instead of waiting for a person. Calls that don't need approval still run. |
| Tool calls a day | The Usage page shows "The daily tool-call limit is reached", and your Gateways deny agents' calls with quota_exceeded until midnight in your organization's time zone. |
The tool-call limit takes effect after the Gateway's next report and sync, a few seconds after it's reached, so a few more calls can get through first. Hosted Gateways always enforce it. A self-hosted Gateway enforces it too, but because it runs in your network, Gatelion can't guarantee it. Every call is still counted and recorded in the audit trail.
The audit trail is never cut off by a limit: Gatelion keeps recording what your Gateways report.
Ask for more
If your organization needs more than these limits, contact Gatelion and say which limit and how much you need. Gatelion can raise limits for your organization; the new limits show on the Usage page at once. Raising the daily tool-call limit also lifts a block that's in place, if you're now under the new limit.
